Amy and Jake’s Gabbinbar Wedding Ceremony

What a beautiful day this was! Jake & Amy were married in August 2022 at the stunningly beautiful, historical homestead that is Gabbinbar, Toowoomba. Yes, most of my weddings are typically in and around Noosa and the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, but I do travel to Gabbinbar as this property is something special.

Amy walked herself down the aisle, as her father and brother had sadly passed away in the years prior to her wedding.

We of course included a sentimental acknowledgement of her heavenly family before launching into a love story that had the entire crowd in absolute hysterics! To give you an idea of how they met, it started something like this…

”Declared by fate, late into the evening… or the wee hours of the morning, a detail still up for debate. Their worlds collided, they locked eyes and their souls connected, after stumbling from the toilets of the illustrious Toowoomba institution, The Vault strip club. Amy was taken by Jake’s eyes and his smile, Jake’s first impression: ‘She was hot, out of control, and out of my league’. The bouncers at said club must have seen that these two were simply made for one another taking action to see they were both ushered away from the pole dancers, and safely to the exit together, not to return. Or in other words, they were kicked out.”

It wasn’t all strip clubs and pole dancers! No, these two were very sweet. I can assure you that the remainder of the story, although with plenty of banter, had more of a PG rating.

Amy & Jake wrote their own vows, as I encourage all of my couples to do. They were very nervous about this process but let me know that my vow writing kit (sent out to all of my couples) was an absolute lifesaver, and I can confirm they absolutely nailed them! There was hardly a dry eye in the room.

They wanted to have something special in the ceremony for their mothers which acknowledged passing on love through the generations, so we discussed the idea of their mum’s being ring bearers and they trusted me with some wording around this. It went as follows:

“Mothers play an enormous role in their children’s lives. Always there for them from when they are little, they lovingly place Band-aids on grazed knees, they care for them when they are sick, a warm shoulder to cry on they wipe away tears, they catch them when they fall. If they do their job well, their children learn to pass on this love they learnt from their mothers to those they choose, and the children they hope to one day have of their own. Jake & Amy’s mothers are now holding the rings that their children will pass onto their new son & daughter in law, the rings they will wear with hopes of infinite and unconditional love and commitment. As such, I would like to invite their mothers Toni & Lisa forward with the rings”
